The Wiston Flock

My aim is to breed Texels with superior carcass quality and high genetic merit. Dutch Texels are regarded as somewhat smaller than the British variety but Wiston Texels have always paid attention to size as well as muscularity and a top class fleece.

Over the years I have concentrated on breeding and retaining females from certain reliable families. With the help of detailed lambing records and Signet Performance figures I have identified these lines all of which are easy lambing. Here are some examples of favourite Wiston females:

RHW00 863 (sire: Yonker) as lamb (left) and in October 2005 (right)

Left: RHW01 954 and RHW00 903 both out of RHW98 676 and by Delos.

Right: Also out of 676 is RHW02 068 (sire: Eryx)

068's daughter RHW05 284 (sire: Ingot)

The classiest looks come from this family. RHW02 038 (sire: Gonzales) out of RHW00 911, prolific and completely trouble-free.

Left: RHW98 657 is the highest indexed ewe in the flock. Here with her daughter RHW03 157.

Right: 657's daughter RHW04 272.

The ewe on the left RHW98 672 (sire: Donnybrook) goes back to the first purchase from the Lyons flock. She was a great show ewe and won several Championships.

Right: her daughter RHW04 232 (sire: Gonzales) with her two lambs in April 2006
