Agust 2010

The bizarre weather of spring and most of the summer has finaly given way to a more familiar rainy August although the rains came far too late for the hay crop which here in East Anglia at least is less than half of what we usually get. The prolonged drought proved to be hard on the sheep but it is amazing how their appearance has changed after a lush re-growth of grass and a good wash.
Recently, much of my time was taken up with organising a new sale for Dutch Texels in Carlisle on 6th September (see catalogue on Harrison and Hetherington's website): www.livestock-sales.co.uk The rest of this year's sale sheep will go to Ruthin on 10th September.
A trip in June and July to Holland with a stop-over in Belgium resulted in the purchase of some rams and shearling ewes, most of which will go to the sale.

Plans for tupping in September are well on the way. I will definitely use Oberon again and a Lighthouse son, called Rheingold. Ovid and his son Ragazzo are also going to be busy.

Oberon - 5302 - 0141

Sire was Preferent ram 3996 -0740 bred by Hokkeling. Oberon spent his career working first in Holland, then Belgium before finally returing to Holland.

Wiston Rheingold RHW10 00022

Rheingold is a son of Lighthouse. His dam is RHW05 321, a ewe noted for her easey lambing, milkyness and robust health. Lighthouse, now five will go to the sale at Carlisle and this ram lamb promises to be his ideal successor.

New photos will be uploaded shortly and there will be another update after the sales.
